Ryan Belyea: Shaman Streak of Silver. Ryan joined Scouts in 1983. He served on the Sawmill Staff for five summers. He was a K-Dog and on the Handicraft Staff in 1987, on the Pool Staff in 1988 and 1989, and was Office Director in 1992 and 1993. Ryan became an Eagle Scout in 1989. He was registered with Troop 5 out of Columbia, MO, but is not currently affiliated with a Troop. He looks forward to returning the Bartle Reservation someday. Ryan and his wife, Laura Morrison-Belyea, live in Raleigh, NC where he is a GIS programmer. He also makes web-based mapping programs and does database work. Ryan is working on a PhD degree from North Carolina State University in (hopefully) Meteorology. He describes himself as a scientist, theorist, and surfer (with 13 hurricanes under his belt). Matthew Brockman: Shaman First Son of Moose-Elk. Matthew began Cub Scouts in 1980, joined Boy Scouts and attended Bartle for the first time in 1984. Matt attended Bartle for five years as a camper, receiving his Brave elevation in 1987. He then served on camp staff at Frontier/Piercing Arrow for the next five years. Matthew received his Eagle in 1988 as the 67th Eagle Scout in Troop 338, from Grandview, MO. Matt earned 52 Merit Badges and received his Bronze, Gold and Silver Eagle Palms in 1989/90. During Matt's tenure with Troop 338, he served in most all leadership positions, including Senior Patrol Leader for two terms. Upon receiving his Eagle rank, Matt Served Troop 338 as a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. Matt has now attended Bartle and served as an adult leader for Troop 338 for years 1993 thru 1995, with plans in place for 1996. Matt joined the Mic-O-Say dancers in 1988 and was an active participant up through 1995. Matt received his Warrior in 1988 and his latest elevation to Shaman in 1992. Mark Browning: Shaman Fiery Pool. Mark has been camping at Bartle since 1974, spending time with Troop 278 in Sawmill as a camper and leader, and with Troop 334 as a leader in Frontier/Piercing Arrow. Mark became a Brave and an Eagle Scout in 1976, and was elevated to Warrior in 1977. He spent the 1978 and 79 camping seasons on the Sawmill Scoutcraft staff, leaving as a Runner. He became a Keeper of the Sacred Bundle in 1981 and a Shaman in 1983. Since then he has been a Camp Scoutmaster twice, served a handful of sessions on the camp staff, most recently in 1996 as RLDS Chaplain. After three daughters, he finally got a future brave in Thomas Browning in 1995. Mark teaches English at Johnson County (Kansas) Community College. Kevin Carlyle: Shaman Fast Flying Ember. Kevin is an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 374 in Liberty, MO, and also of Troop 400 in Warrensburg, MO during the school year at Central Missouri State University. He completed the North Star Scoutmaster Fundamentals Training course in 2000. His most recent advancement to Shaman was in 2nd session of 2002. Kevin has served on the camp staff. He was handicraft counselor in PA in 2000 and 2001. He got to handle hundreds of first-year scouts (literally), and 600+ Webelos who all tye-dyed a t-shirt in 2000. He was on the Piercing Arrow Kitchen staff through 3rd session in 1997 and learned just how much work the kitchen is. While on staff he has met many friends whom he hopes to see at camp for many summers to come.
In 1988, Kevin started Cub Scouts in Pack 269 out of Raytown, MO as a tiger cub. He attended Day Camp at Longview Lake in 1989 and 1990. As a Bear Cub, he moved to Liberty and joined Pack 320 and while there earned his bear claw. He attended Webelos Camp at Camp Naish in 1991 and 1992. In Webelos he earned 18 activity badges and met the guys he would spend much of his scouting career with. In 1993 he entered Boy Scouts. As a Scout he was extremely active. Kevin became a Brave second session of 1996. He advanced to Warrior during Staff Week in 1997. He has been awarded the Coup of the Long Trail, the Staff Coup, and the Eagle Scout Coup. He has camped in Piercing Arrow for ten years starting in 1993. He was a participant of Troop 1439 at the 1997 National Jamboree where he had lots of fun and met new friends along with attending with many old friends. At Spring Conclave 1999, he became a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow in Tamegonit Lodge 147. He attended C.O.P.E. in the Jayhawk Area Council in 1995, has camped for over 200 nights, and has earned the World Conservation Award. He completed 51 Merit Badges as a youth. Patrick Cone: Shaman Son of Fast Darting Blue Flame. Patrick became a Brave in the Tribe during first session of 1994. He received his most recent elevation to Shaman sixth session of 1998. He served on the program ranger staff for the past five years. His first year he was a CIT. His next three years were spent working at Mountain Man Village. Last summer, he was the Indian Village Director. If any staff members would like his address (it is wrong in the staff directory) they can e-mail him for it. Patrick is an Eagle Scout class of 1996 and a member of NESA. He is currently attending Iowa Western Community College. He is an E-3 in the Iowa Air National Guard and is expecting to ship out for basic at Laclond Air Force Base in Texas this September. Joseph Davis: Shaman Youngest Son of Counsels with Eagles. Joseph is 20 years old. He was the first one called for Brave during 5th session 1996. He became a Warrior during Staff week and Firebuilder during 5th session while on staff in 1997. His most recent evelvation to Shaman was 2nd session in 2002. Joseph attended Brownsea 22 in 1997 the day after he left Bartle as a staff member. Joseph achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in March 2000. His brothers, Phil & Ray, are also in the Tribe and his father is a Sachem. He entered the Navy on July 28, 2000 and is stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Base as an Electronics Technician. John Dunn: Shaman Little Evening Thunder. John became a Brave in 1992 and a Warrior in 1993. His most recent elevation to Shaman came in 1997. He served on the camp staff from 1993-1997. His first two years in the Lone Star Office, then moving on to the pool in 1995. John returned to the office in 1996 as Office Director. In 1997, he moved down the hill to Lakefront as Paddles Counselor. John is currently an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 395 in the Santa Fe Trail District. Jeremy Francis: Shaman Fast Burning Ember. Jeremy became a Brave during 5th session of 1991 in Camp Sawmill. His most recent elevation to Shaman was in 1997. He served on the Bartle Ranger Staff full time in 1995 and for three sessions in 1996. Jeremy earned the Coup of the Long Trail by participating in a troop 50-mile hiking, biking, and canoeing adventure. He also wears the military coup, symbolizing his ongoing service to the National Guard. Jeremy is an Eagle Scout and active leader in Troop 324 out of Richmond, MO. His previous Tribal Name was Small Lone Calling Quail, which he changed along with his father. Bill Harrison: Shaman Brightly Shining Silver Star. In the early 70's, Bill was in Troop 282 out of Leawood, KS. He was a camper in Frontier in 1975 and 1976. In 1977 and 1978, he was on the Frontier Kitchen Staff. He broke out of that job and spent the summer of 1979 in the Frontier Handicraft Lodge. Bill became an Eagle Scout in 1980 and then dropped out of Scouting. He joined the Navy in 1982 and that's where he's been since. He's an Aviation Ordinance Master Chief working at Naval Aviation Maintenance Training Group Headquarters in Pensacola, FL. Matthew Heapes: Shaman Swift Thundering Timberwolf. Matthew became a Brave in 1995 and a Warrior 1996. His most recent elevation to Shaman was in 1999. He served on the camp staff in 1996, 1997, and 1998, working at the pool all three years. He is planning to work as a counselor at the Lakefront this summer. Justin Hoke: Shaman Third Son of Red Evening Sun. Justin has attended the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation for 11 summers. Four of those summers were in Camp Lone Star, six in Camp Sawmill, and one year on staff as the Blue Elk Counselor in 1999. He became a Brave 1st Session in 1994 and a Warrior 1st Session in 1995. His most recent elevation to Shaman was 1st Session in 2000. Justin has attended Philmont Scout Ranch twice. In 1994 for a trek, in which he was crew leader, and in 1997 for National Junior Leader Instructor Camp. He served on the staff at Webelos Woods for two years. Justin earned 51 merit badges and is an Eagle Scout with 6 palms. He is an Ordeal member of the Order of the Arrow. He earned the Bear Claw, the God and Country award, and the Arrow of Light in Cub Scouts. Curtis Jacobs: Shaman Little Pointing Blue Oak. Curtis attended the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation as a camper from 1971 to 1975. He was on camp staff from 1976 to 1979. In 1976 and 1977, he was in Frontier for Dan Beard. In 1978 and 1979, he was in Sawmill as a Scoutcraft Counselor. Curtis became a Brave in 1974, a Warrior in 1975, an Eagle Scout in 1976, and a Shaman in 1979. From 1981 to 1987, Curtis served his country. From 1981 to 1983, he was in the Military Police (Army Reserves). From 1983 to 1987, he was in a Field Artillery unit, where he assembled tactical field nuclear weapons for the howitzer. Curtis has a brother, Alan Jacobs: Shaman Pointing Blue Oak, who is also an Eagle Scout and also served on camp staff, including Camp Naish, and is in the Order of the Arrow. Derek Johnson: Shaman Lost Wandering Grizzly Bear. Derek started his Scouting career in Pack 228 in Independence, MO. He moved up through the ranks of Cub Scouting and earned the God and Family Award, the Arrow of Light, and the 15er Award in Webelos. He then went into Troop 228. He earned his Eagle in 1988 and has 7 Palms for a total of 56 Merit Badges. In 1989 he went to the National Jamboree for which he earned the Coup of the Long Trail. Then, in 1991 he went to the World Jamboree in Korea. In 1993 Derek went to the National Jamboree as an adult leader. He started camping in 1985 and has not missed a year. Derek became a Brave in 1989 and was elevated to the rank of a mighty Warrior in 1990. His most recent elevation to Shaman was in 1994. He has camped in all three camps but spent most of his time in Frontier (Piercing Arrow). In 1990 he was on Trading Post Staff in Frontier, in 1997 he was 5th Session Ranger Staff, and in 1998 he was a Campsite Commissioner for Webelos Camp. Larry Johnson: Shaman Storming Falcon. Larry has served on the Lone Star Camp Staff for four years. In 1995, he served as the Assistant Pool Director. Larry earned his Eagle in 1991 and still serves as a Committee Member for Troop 221 in Independence, MO. He works as the Constituent Services Director for Congressman John Kline in Burnsville, MN. Brian Ledford: Shaman Lone Burning Red Ember. Brian became a Brave during 4th session in 1992. He recieved his most recent elevation to Shaman during 3rd session in 1998. He has camped at the Bartle Reservation for 10 years, and he does not plan to stop any time soon. Brian currently serves as Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 145 out of Raytown, MO. Joseph W. Mowry: Shaman Small Hunting Bear. Joseph entered the Tribe as a Brave in 1985. His most recent elevation to Shaman occured in 1991. He became an Eagle Scout in 1989. Also in 1989, he received the Coup of the Long Trail. Joeseph served on the camp staff from 1987-1989.
Dr. Lawson S. Rener: Shaman Proud Young Eagle. Dr. Rener entered Cub Scout Pack 17 in the Lone Star District in 1976, Webelos Pack 17 in 1978, and Troop 17 in October 1979. He attended H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation for the first time in 1980. In 1981, he moved to Bryant, Arkansas and was a member of Troop 99, Ouachita Area Council, but continued to attend Bartle as well as his council's summer camp, Camp Tula. In 1983 he became Brave in the Tribe. He continued to come to Bartle every year and was elevated to Shaman in 1989 during fifth session. He received his Eagle Scout Award in 1982 and finished with 72 merit badges and 10 Eagle Palms. While in Troop 99 from 1981-1987, he held most leadership positions including Senior Patrol Leader 8 times and was Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow and recieved his Ordeal in 1982, Brotherhood in 1983, and Vigil Honor in 1985. He was an officer of Wazhazee Lodge #366 for 3 years including Lodge Chief. He is currently on the Troop 17 Committee in Pioneer Trails. Dr. Rener is a graduate of the University of Missouri at Kansas City with a B.S. in biology, Doctor of Dental Surgery and Graduate Certificates in General Dentistry. He practices in the Medical Plaza Building and is an associate dentist at St. Luke's Hospital of Kansas City. He has recently been listed in Who's Who of Professionals and Executives for 1997-1998. Devin Warrington: Shaman Blue-Eyed Eagle. Devin has attended the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation for 20 summers as a camper and leader. Thirteen of those sessions he camped at Camp Sawmill, six at Camp Lone Star, and one at Piercing Arrow. Devin became a Brave in the Tribe during 1st session of 1992 and was elevated to the rank of a mighty Warrior 1st session of 1993. He received his most recent elevation to Shaman 1st session of 1998. He is an Eagle Scout class of 1991 with five Eagle Palms. Devin earned a total of 46 merit badges. He started out his Scouting career as a Tiger Cub in Pack 272 in Gladstone, MO. While in Cub Scouts, he earned the Bear Claw, God and Me, and the Arrow of Light awards. Shortly after entering Boy Scouts, Devin moved and joined Troop 412 in Smithville, MO. While a youth in this Troop he held nearly every leadership position including Troop Guide, Den Chief, Senior Patrol Leader, and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster.
Devin attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO until 1999 when he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Management Systems. During his junior and senior years at Northwest, Devin served as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 75, Pony Express Council. Devin currently serves as Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 412 in Smithville, MO. He also works with the youth at his church in Liberty, MO. David Wildschuetz: Shaman Little Screaming Nightbirds. David started Scouting in November of 1975 with Troop 257. He entered the Tribe in 1979. In 1980, he served on the Outpost Camping Staff (now known as the Ranger Staff) at the Robin's Polaris camp. He returned in 1981 as a camper and received his Firebuilder. In 1982, he was a member of the Ranger Commisary Staff, filling all of those sack lunches. It was during this summer that David became a Tom-Tom Beater and then Runner. In 1983, he served as Archery Director at Camp Naish in Edwardsville, KS. That year he was inducted into the Order of The Arrow and also received the Keeper Of The Sacred Bundle paint. Having entered the job market, he could only get to camp in 1984 for one session as a leader with his Troop. David remained active with his Troop for nearly 10 more years, only getting to camp for a day at best each year, until a move to another town and family commitments kept him too busy. His heart still longs for camp every summer, and he awaits the day he can come back to spend some more time in the hills and hollows of the Bartle Scout Reservation. Harley Winfrey: Shaman Eldest Son of Little Quivering Nighthawk. Harley was elevated to Shaman during 3rd session in 1998. He has camped at Bartle for 4 years, and has served 5 years on Bartle staff at Sawmill. Harley began as a Tiger Cub in Pack 208 of Buckner, MO and advanced through Webelos. He then entered Boy Scouts in Troop 82 where he earned his Eagle Scout. He currently serves as an Assistant Scoutmaster with the troop. His e-mail address is ewinfrey@iland.net
Chris Wristen: Shaman Swift and Strong Jumping Red Fox. Chris began camping at Bartle in 1991. He became a Brave during first session of 1994 and a Warrior in 1995. His most recent elevation to Shaman was in 1999. He served on the lakefront staff and as assistant director of the Lone Star office and trading post in 1997. Chris earned the Coup of the Long Trail in 1995 after attending Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, N.M. He has also earned the Eagle Scout coup, staff coup and religious award coup. Chris is currently and Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 395 in the Santa Fe Trail District and continues to camp at Bartle every summer. Chris graduated from the University of Kansas in Spring 2002 with a journalism degree. He is currently a graduate student at KU and is pursuing a master's degree in Sports Administration.
