Jim returned to Bartle after his 18th birthday as Camp Scoutmaster for his first-ever session in Camp Sawmill, earning his Scoutmaster's Coup. That year and session had some historically significant events: it was the first year that "21 paint" was awarded to men from the ages of 18 to 21. Much to his surprise (and happiness!), Jim was elevated to Firebuilder. More significant, however, it was the first session that a female was inducted into the Tribe as an Honored Woman, the recipient being a leader camping in Sawmill. Shortly thereafter, Jim took a hiatus from the Tribe and Scouting to pursue other personal and professional goals. In 1999, he made good on his personal commitment to a lifetime of Scouting and returned to the scouting movement as a Committee Member of Troop 30 (home of the infamous/famous Medicine Man Mad Drums--Whitey Koogler) where he serves as webmaster for the Troop website (http://www.troop30.org) in addition to other duties.
