- Justin Ballard: Sachem Crafty Black Fox. Justin was inducted into the Tribe during the 5th session of 1995. He became a Warrior 5th session of 1996. His most recent elevation to Sachem was in 2002. He became an Eagle in July of 1997 while on staff at Bartle. Justin was the Sawmill reptiles Instructor in 1997 and 1998. In 1999, he was the Lone Star Handicraft Counselor and will be again this summer. Currently, Justin is 20 years old and lives in Holden, MO where he is an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 304. He will be the Lone Bear District Roundtable commisioner starting in November. Justin is enrolled at Longview Community College, where he plans to major in history and minor in education. - Michael "Bug" Cook: Sachem Swift Swooping Bluebird. Michael was inducted into the Tribe as a Brave in 1989 as a Scout with Troop 552 in Grandview MO. He became a Shaman in 1993, and his most recent elevation to Sachem was in 1995. In 1990 he joined ranger camp staff where he worked 6 summers. He held the positions of Ranger Office worker, Diner-in-the-Oaks counselor, Quartermaster Counselor, and Assistant Ranger Director in Training.
- John Cunningham: Sachem Silent Winter Wolf. John was inducted into the Tribe as a Brave in 1964 while he was a member of Troop 78 in the Westerners District of the Kansas City Council. He was elevated to Sachem in 2001. He was presented his Eagle badge in 1964 by the sponsor that year, Norman Rockwell. His Scouting career includes Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 78, merit badge counselor while in the U.S. Army in Berlin, Germany, and Tiger Cub Group Coach, Assistant Cubmaster, Den Leader, Cubmaster, and Committee Chairman with Pack 24 in the Pioneer Trails District. He has been the Advancement Chairman with Troop 24 in the Pioneer Trails District. John has served on the Pioneer Trails training staff as well as the Heart of America Council training staff. He is currently serving as the Mic-O-Say Advisor for Troop 24, Committee Member for Venturning Crew 24, and Unit Commissioner and Eagle Board Guest Chairman for the Pioneer Trails District. John has had the privilege of attending the Philmont Training Center. - George R. (Bob) Davis: Sachem Councils with Eagles. George was inducted into the Tribe as an Honorary Warrior in 1974, 3rd Session, Camp Frontier, Campsite Collins. At this time he was with Troop 140 in the Lewis & Clark District, serving as a Scoutmaster. He received the Scoutmaster's Coup and Military Coup at this time, as well. He had the privilege of having Pappy attend to him during the Ceremony that brought him into the Tribe. Pappy made sure that he fully understood the message, thanks to Jack Giho (Skipper at Frontier & one of his committee members). George attended the 50th Anniversary Tribal Feast. In 1991, he received two great honors. The first was the bestowing of the RLDS adult religious award on Scout Sunday. The second was his elevation to Sachem 4th Session 1991. His first Scouter training, Cornerstone, occurred in 1974 and took place at Powell Scout Camp. George is a member of the Balding Beaver Patrol of Wood Badge Course NC 396. He was on the Scout Expo Staff representing Big Muddy and has directed a Klondike Derby, Spring & Fall Camporee. He has been an SA, SM, CM, MC, CC, Advancement Chair, Webelos & Den Leader, and currently holds the position of Camping Chair with Troop 313. He has given service to many Troops & Packs in Missouri including Kansas City, Independence, Osceola, Rosendale (Pony Express Council), Richill, Lexington, Richmond, and Excelsior Springs.
George is a Brotherhood member of the Order of The Arrow and holds the Brown Hawk Coup. He has three sons, (Joe, Ray, and Phil)--two are only a project away from Eagle and the other is an Eagle. He spent 5 years in Scouts as a boy earning 30 Merit Badges. He only attained Star rank, however, because of procrastination. He spent two summers at Osceola as a boy, the first in Wigwam & the second in Sawmill, the first year Sawmill officially opened. His reasons for dropping out are unclear, but the first time he stopped by camp as an adult he felt the truth that "The hills of Osceola are calling me today..." - Aaron Doutt: Sachem Son of Stalking Yellow Wolf. Aaron became a Brave in 1993, a Shaman in 1999, and was elevated to Sachem in 2001. He first camped at Bartle in 1990 and except for his years on staff, has always stayed in Sawmill. Aaron served on the Bartle camp staff in from 1995-2001, except for 1998 when he was in Switzerland as a foreign exchange students. He was a COPE instructor in '95 and '96, Assistant COPE Director in 1997, Climbing Tower Director in '99 program ranger, and COPE Director in 2001. Aaron attended Philmont in 1993 and 1995 participating in treks 10 and 11. In 1997 he served on staff at the National BSA Jamboree at Fort AP Hill, VA. He started Scouting as a Tiger Cub in 1985. In 1990 he received his Arrow of Light and bridged into Troop 412 in Olathe, KS. During his time in the troop, Aaron served in positions such as Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, and Venture Crew Chief. He became an Eagle Scout on May 18, 1994. Currently, he serves his Troop as a committee member. Aaron is a brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. He is a Sergeant in the Missouri National Guard. At the beginning of the summer of 2001, he completed a special operations school for the national guard called Combat Engineer Battle Skills Course (CEBC) or Sapper School. He returned on July 8, 2004 from a 16-month deployment with the 203rd Engineer Combat Battalion (Heavy) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Aaron is currently a student at Souwthwest Missouri State University majoring in sociology. He is also part of the ROTC program. He plans to graduate in 2006. - Andy Dubill: Sachem Spotted Gray Eagle. Andy was inducted into the Tribe in 1990. He was elevated to the responsibility of a Sachem first session in 2002. He joined the Cub Scouts in 1958 and earned his Eagle Award in 1962 with Troop 75 in Detroit, Michigan. He eventually earned three palms and is a member of NESA. When Andy moved to Prairie Village in 1986, he became Advancement Chairman and then Cubmaster of Pack 3395 and watched it grow from 7 cubs to 95 cubs in four years. He has served as Committee Chairman and Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 395 at Cure of Ars Catholic Church in Leawood since 1988. He was the District Chairman for Santa Fe Trail District from 1993 - 1996. He has served on the Heart of America Council Executive Board since 1988.
Andy has earned the Catholic Bronze Pelican Award, the St. George Religious Award, the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver. He has served on the staff of the 1993 and 1997 National Scout Jamboree as well as many Council committees. He has been an instructor at the Philmont Training Center for two summers. He has camped at Bartle since 1988, has served on the Bartle Camp Staff from 1995-1998 and 2001-2002, and received his staff coups in 1997. Andy is married to Sue Dubill and they have three children - Erika is a Gold Award Girl Scout and two sons who are Eagle Scouts - Dave and Daniel.
In his spare time Andy collects Boy Scout memorabilia and writes historical articles on Camp Osceola and the Tribe of Mic-O-Say for "Cedar Smoke." - Charles A. Etem, Jr.: Sachem First Rabbit. Charles had a very impressive career in Scouting. On November 13, 1942 he became the 1st Eagle Scout of Troop 219 out of Hickman Mills, MO. On his Trail to Eagle he earned Second Class rank in 1939, First Class in 1940, Star in 1940, and Life in 1941. He was inducted into the Tribe as a Brave in 1941, received his Warrior in 1943, and was elevated to Sachem 1st session in 1975. While serving on staff at the Bartle Reservation, he received a draft notice for duty in World War II. H. Roe Bartle himself then drove Charles back to Kansas City. On April 29, 1972, Charles was honored with the Order of Merit Award.
On June 30, 1992, Charles' son, Rick, took him to the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation. At that time, Charles was suffering from intermediate stages of Alzheimer's Disease. They visited She-She-Be and Lone Bear Council Rings. They ate Lunch with Troop 219. At the meal, the Camp Director called out for Sachem First Rabbit to rise. Charles stood up with help from his son. Charles was then publicly recognized as being the 1st Eagle Scout of Troop 219. A loud round of
applause followed. Sachem First Rabbit entered into rest June 11, 1993.
- Patrick Farmer: Sachem Smoking Leaf. Patrick was inducted into the Tribe as a Brave in 1992. He received his most recent elevation to Sachem in 1998. He is currently a member of Troop 332 in Blue Springs, MO. He first served on staff at the Bartle Scout Reservation in 1993, and served four years with the Program Rangers. His first two years were as J-Staff at Briley Creek Trap and Skeet. His third year was as the counselor of the Turkey Wing Gun Club. The summers of 1996 and 1997, Patrick was the Director at Briley Creek Trap and Skeet. Next summer, he will be the Assistant Ranger Director. He is currently in college at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. He is a theatre education major hoping someday to teach high school. - Steve "Hoss, Elmer" Foote: Sachem Little Silver Foot. Steve was born and raised in Osceola, MO and this is where his scouting career started. He pushed through Cub Scouts, Webelos, and onto Boy Scouts. Steve became a member of Troop 350 in 1986 . He earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1988 and became a Brave in 1989, then a Warrior in 1990. Steve made his kiddy camper debut at Bartle in 1986 and continued as a camper through the summer of 1991. The following summer, he joined the Sawmill Aquatics Staff. He served as a member of the pool J-staff for three years and was Assistant Pool Director his last two years on staff. All of his years were spent in the great Camp Sawmill. Steve was elevated to Sachem the summer of 1996. Unfortunately, this was his last year at Camp due to graduating from college. Steve, his wife Andrea, and daughter Addison live in Olathe, KS. - Craig Hastings: Sachem Little Swift Wingfoot. Craig is a member of Troop 332 in Blue Springs, MO. He has served as Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Troop Scribe, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, and Campfire Leader. He is currently an Assistant Scoutmaster. Craig received his Brave first session in 1997 at Camp Piercing Arrow and returned to Piercing Arrow as a C.I.T. third session. He became a Warrior staff week 1998 and received his Firebuilder sixth session, 1998. He was elevated to Shaman during first session, 2001. His most recent elevation to Sachem was in 2003. He wears the Eagle coup, staff coup, and Coup of the Long Trail. He served on the Piercing Arrow staff as a handicraft instructor in 1998, Archery instructor in 1999-2000, and Mic-O-Say counselor in 2001-2002. Craig is an Eagle Scout with a Gold Palm. He is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. He attended Packard High Adventure Base in Colorado in July, 1997. Craig is a graduate of Blue Springs South High School and of Truman State University. He is currently teaching 6th grade math at Bridger Middle School in Indpendence, and he is coaching football at Bingham Middle School. Craig enjoys sports and fishing in his spare time. - Floyd "Buddy" Hastings, Sr.: Sagamore Big Swift Wingfoot. Buddy received his Honorary Warrior in 1964. He served two three-year terms as Scoutmaster of Troop 75 in Raytown, from 1965-1968 and 1971-1974. From 1965 to 1967, the Troop grew from 32 scouts to 125. He was honored with the Scouter's Award and the Scoutmaster's Key. He became a Sachem third session, 1973. He was a wonderful husband and father to his devoted wife, Nellie and his children, Gina Buss, Margie Ryan, and Buddy Hastings, Jr. He has four grandsons, Dr. Hugh Ryan, Tim Ryan, Perry Buss and Craig Hastings. All are Eagle scouts and Tribesman. A new great grandson, Nathan Ryan, is a future Eagle Scout and Tribesman. Buddy passed away in 1982. His family and friends still miss him each day.
- John (J. J.) Knight: Sachem Little Growling Gray Wolf. John joined Scouting with Troop 430 out of Clinton, MO in 1987. He attended Bartle three years as a camper, camping in Lone Star in 1988-1989 and Frontier in 1990. In 1990 there was an opening on the handicraft staff in Frontier, so he took it. John became a Brave in 1990 and earned his staff coup. He
advanced to Warrior and served as Health Lodge counselor in 1991. In 1992, he served as Scoutcraft counselor in Frontier. He was Assistant Rifle Range Director at Piercing Arrow in 1993. In 1994-1996 he served as Piercing Arrow office director. John received his most recent elevation to Sachem in 1996. In 1997, he was both the pool director and Mic-O-Say counselor at Piercing Arrow. He plans to attend Bartle next summer as the Piercing Arrow pool director. He is a member of the 1991 Eagle class and has the military coup. John attended Philmont in 1988. - Douglas Leamon: Sachem Quetenon. Douglas was a member of Troop 370 out of Parkville, MO. He served on the camp staff in 1972/73 as Sawmill Pool Junior Staff, 1973/75 as Sawmill Ass't Pool Director, and 1976 as Wigwam (LoneStar) Pool Director. He became a Sachem in 1976. His Tribal Name is pronounced 'Wee-ah-ten-non'. The Quetenon are an extint tribe of Indians from the Wabash Valley in Indiana where his relatives first settled. The idea for the name came from his father. Douglas served eight years with Korean Air and has returned to Alaska. He is currently employed with Atlas Air, Inc. as a B747 instructor. - Alan Mais: Sachem Little Flaming Fire Hawk. Alan camped at Bartle for four years, starting in 1989. He became a staff member in 1993 and continued until 1998. All six of those years were spent at the Lone Star Ecology Program Area and included one year as Assistant Director and two years as Director. Alan earned his Brave in 1992 and his Warrior in 1993. In 1998, he received the responsibility of Sachem. Alan is currently an Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 262 out of Lee's Summit and is living in Kansas City, MO. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Food Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia and is working in the Research and Development Lab at Cereal Ingredients Inc. - Jeff Marcotte: Sachem Large Flying Nighthawk. Jeff has been to Bartle every year since 1978. His most recent elevation to Sachem was during 2nd session in 1988. In 1975, he started out as a Cub Scout in Pack 110 out of Kansas City, MO. He then continued on as a Boy Scout in Troop 110, which operates out of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Jeff became an Eagle Scout in 1983. Currently, he remains with Troop 110 as their Life to Eagle Coordinator. He also serves on several boards in the Thunderbird District. Jeff served on staff at Bartle for seven years from 1983 to 1989. He has also served as a Campsite Commissioner in Piercing Arrow for the past two summers. - E. C. Mowry: Sachem Hunting Bear. E. C. became an Honorary Warrior in 1959. His most recent elevation to Sachem was in 1972. His Tribal Registration No. is 11419. He received the Scoutmaster Coup in 1961. E. C. passed away in 1972.
- Joseph Wm. "Joe" Mowry: Sachem Little Hunting Bear. Joe first camped at Osceola in Camp Sawmill in 1955. He became an Eagle Scout in 1961. He entered the Tribe as a Brave in 1960, and his Tribal Registration No. is 12183. Joe's most recent elevation to Sachem occured in 1986. He served as Sawmill Kitchen Director in 1967. He received his First Coveted Coup in 1962, Scoutmaster coup in 1962, Military coup in 1967, staff coup in 1967, Coup of the Long Trail in 1992, and 50th anniversary coup in 1979. He has attended two trips to Philmont. Joe is currently an Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 332 in Blue Springs. He has also served as Scoutmaster.
- John Peter: Sachem Thunder Heart. John has camped at Camp Lone Star for five years, and has worked on the Lakefront Staff at the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation for six years. During his last summer on staff (1998), he was the Lakefront Program Assistant Director. John received his Warrior in 1993 and was elevated to Shaman in 1996. During 6th session Warrior Ceremony in 1998, he was elevated to the responsibility of Sachem. He is an Eagle Scout with two palms. John received the Coup of the Long Trail in 1994. He currently serves as an Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 376 out of Liberty, MO. - Chris Pulley: Sachem Swift Silent Blazing Horse. Chris became a Brave in 1994 and a mighty Warrior in 1995. His most recent elevation to Sachem was in 2001. He first went on staff in Camp Sawmill in 1997 in the Office/Trading Post as an Instructor. In 1998, again with the Sawmill Office, he was the Assistant Office Director. He returned in 1999 as Sawmill's Office Director. In 2000, he served as the Sawmill Handicraft Counselor. Then in 2001, he served as Sawmill Mic-O-Say Counselor where he served again in 2002. In 2003, he served his last year on staff (for now), again as the Sawmill Mic-O-Say Counselor. Chris started Tiger Cubs in 1985 and worked his way up to Arrow of Light. - Mark Sherman: Sachem Hunting Grey Owl. Mark was in the last group of Braves inducted under Pappy Grube in 1978. In 1979, Mark went on the Frontier staff in the kitchen, in 1980 he worked for Rick Boeshar on the lake in Wigwam, in 1981 he worked at the Frontier Rifle Range, and in 1982 he worked at Sgt Schultz BB Gun Range with the Rangers. From 1982-1986, Mark was in the US Navy. In 1986 he returned to Bartle as the Sawmill Kitchen Director. Then in 1987 he served as the Frontier Rifle Range Director, and the Sawmill Assistant Camp Director from 1988-1989. Mark was honored as a Sachem in 1988. Since he is no longer on camp staff due to being a P-3 Flight Engineer with the Navy, he attends ceremonials at both the Bartle and Geiger Reservations.
- Michael R. "Subb" Snell: Sachem Young Swift Spotted Lizard. Michael is currently registered with Troop 201 in Independence, MO. He serves as Assistant Scoutmaster and Advancement Chairman. He is a third generation Tribesman. His grandfather, William Snell, Warrior Big Swift Spotted Lizard; his uncle, Phil Snell, Firebuilder Swift Spotted Lizard; and his father, Dennis Snell, Warrior Son of Big Swift Spotted Lizard are also Tribesmen. Michael's first year at camp was in 1987. He camped at camp Sawmill with Troop 356 from that year until 1990. In 1989, he and his father were inducted into the Tribe at the same ceremony. He remembers having a view over the lake and seeing lightening in the distance. In 1990, at his first Tribal Feast, he was recognized as one of two groups of three generations of Tribesmen. The importance of that event did not hit him until years later, now that both his father's and grandfather's work is done. Later that year, Michael returned to the reservation and became a Warrior. The next two years, 1991 and 1992, Michael served as Scoutcraft instructor on the Camp Sawmill staff. During those summers, he met some of the greatest people he has ever had the privilege of knowing. He did not keep in touch with them however, so he is very eager to hear from anyone who may have served on staff with him.
Michael dropped out of scouting for a short time, thus not allowing him to earn Eagle, a mistake he regrets to this day. In 1994, he decided he again wanted to become involved in scouts and rejoined with Troop 201. He returned to the reservation with them the next year and has been back every year since. He became a Shaman in 1996 and received his most recent elevation to Sachem in 2007. He has completed Boy Scout Leader Fundamental Training, and has received the Boy Scout Leaders Training Award. - Jeff Thomason: Sachem First Son of Little Voice that Carries. Jeff is a hardway rainbow, inducted as a Brave in... He was on Bartle Program Ranger staff for seven years. He took a break from the BSA while he was in the US Navy. During that time, he was active in international scouting with Boy Scouts Nippon (BSN) while stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. Jeff was on the district staff of the local BSA in Yokosuka. Since coming home from the Navy, he is again involved with his home troop, Troop 145, as a committe member and assistant scoutmaster.
- Russ Wittig: Sachem Many Wise Stars. Russ joined Troop 266 in Oak Grove, MO in 1968, and became an Eagle Scout in 1975 (Pappy Grube's class). He became a Brave in the Tribe in 1972, and was elevated to Warrior in 1973. He received Firebuilder paint in 1974, and was elevated to the tribal council as a Sachem in 1996. Since 1975, Russ has been an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 266. He has served as troop campmaster, and has camped at Bartle for 33 years. He has been a crew advisor for two Philmont treks, in 1982 and 1988, and received the Coup of the Long Trail. Russ is a lifetime member of NESA, and was district NESA chairman from 1983 to 1990. He also serves as an assistant district commissioner for the beauti-ful Blue Elk district, and has been involved in many district activities. - Hillis Bowers: Keeper of the Wampum Glancing Ax. Hillis was a Scout as a boy, but only attained the rank of Second Class. He became an adult leader in 1954 and an Honorary Warrior in 1955. From 1955-1958 he was the Scoutmaster of Troop 220 in Lee's Summit, MO. He did not return to the Reservation until 1970 when his oldest son joined scouts. Hillis became a Sachem in 1975 and a Keeper of the Wampum in 1981. His four sons are Eagle Scouts and Tribesmen: Merle, Rick, Ed and Rodger Bowers. Hillis passed away in February of 2000.
- James C. (J.C., Jay) Flaherty: Keeper of the Wampum Little Silver Safe Wing. James entered the Tribe as a Brave in 1963 and became a Warrior in 1964 after being called at the National Jamboree. He was in the Sawmill Pool Staff from 1965-1970, during which time he received elevations up to Sachem. He started out as j-staff and became the aquatics director in 1969. He came back as aquatics director from 1989-1991 and was elevated to Keeper of the Wampum in 1989. He has served as Campsite Lakota Commissioner in 2003 and 2004. James is a troop committee member for Troop 50 in Waldo and Troop 374 in Liberty. He became an Eagle Scout in Troop 374 and has two palms. Other areas of service have included work day coordinator for the 75th Anniversary of the Tribe in 2004 and a member of the S.N.A.W.S. staff for 10 years. His training includes being National Camp School trained in 1989 and being Wood Badge trained in 2000. He is a Lifetime Dog Soldier and Jame E. West Fellow. - Mike Gordon: Keeper of the Wampum Majestic Cedar. Mike became a Brave in the Tribe in 1962 and advanced through the paints to Runner in 1966. He became a Sachem 1st session in 2001. His most recent elevation to KW was 6th session in 2006. He has attended Bartle for 35 years. Seven of those years were as a Scout and 28 as an adult. He served on Bartle staff as outpost counselor in 1966. He returned as Outpost Director from 2003-2005. He served as Sawmill Dining Hall Director in 2006. Mike has also camped at Naish for two sessions and has been on three treks to Philmont, all as an adult leader. He is currently the Committee Chair of Troop 412 out of Smithville, MO.
Mike's past record of service is extensive. He was a Cub Scout in Pack 203 from 1955-1958. In 1958 he joined Troop 203 where he earned his Eagle Rank. In 1965 he became Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 203 and later became Scoutmaster in 1975. He served in that capacity through 1977. In 1988, Mike became a committee member of Pack 357. In 1990 he joined Pack 155 where he served as Webelos Leader. In 1991 he again returned to being an Assistant Scoutmaster, this time with Troop 155. He became Scoutmaster of this Troop in 1993. After moving to Smithville in 1994, Mike served as Committee Chair of Troop 412 through 1997, and is again serving in this position. Over the years, he has served as camp scoutmaster many times. - Sean "Mohoganogan" Monaghen: Keeper of the Wampum Wiley Raccoon. Sean attended the Bartle Scout Reservation for four years as a Scout. He then served a total of 13 years on staff at Bartle, serving as Nature Instructor, Scout Craft Director, Davis Climbing Wall Director, and Program Director. - Robert (Bob) H. Nelson: Keeper of the Wampum Smoking Blue Pine. Bob became an Honorary Warrior in 1970. He was elevated to Sachem in 1985, and Keeper of the Wampum in 1989. He served as a Commissioner from 1989 thru 1991 in Camp Frontier (Piercing Arrow), and the Lead Commissioner in Camp Sawmill in 1992. His four sons are all Tribesmen, three
of whom are Eagle Scouts: Kenneth: Firebuilder Small Pine, Leonard: Warrior Smoking Blue Pine Branch, Dennis: Shaman Lightly Rising Blue Smoke, and Gregory: Little Smoking Blue Pine, and a grandson, Mark Nelson: Warrior Smoking Blue Pine Cone. Bob also has four other grandsons in Scouting.
Bob has been on the Troop Committee of Troop 707 since 1968, serving in various capacities including Committee Chairman and COR. In Scouting, Bob holds the Training Award, Scouters Key, Commissioner Arrowhead, Distinguished Commissioner, District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver, Bronze Pelican, and St. George Award. He is a Religious Emblems Counselor for Catholic religious awards. He has been associated with the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting since 1984, and was Chairman 1995-1998. He is now Chairman of Region 9 of the National Catholic Committee on Scouting, covering the states of

- Mac Rogers: Keeper of the Wampum Flashing White Stallion. Mac became a Cub Scout in 1963 and a Boy Scout in 1965. His 1st year at Bartle was 1966 in Camp Sawmill, Campsite Maple. He became a Brave in 1968, the 1st Foxman called in Sawmill's 4th session Call Night. Warrior came in 1969. Then there was Camp Staff, Reservation Outpost Staff in 1970. He was elevated to Firebuilder and Tom-Tom Beater that summer. In 1971 he camped again with the Troop and was elevated to the postion of Runner by "Pappy" Grube. In 1972 Camp Staff beckoned him once more, and he served as Quartermaster for the Dan Beard Program (today's Pioneer Trails).
Mac was elevated to KSB that year.
In 1984, Mac was elevated to Sachem. Then, in 1988 he became the Troop Scoutmaster. In 1991 he was elevated to Keeper of the Wampum. Mac has not missed a summer of camping since 1966 and has served as the camp scoutmaster for more than 12 summers. His life has been blessed through Mic-O-Say. - Merle Bowers: Sagamore Little Glancing Ax. Merle attended the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation for five years as a Scout. He became a Brave in 1973, a Warrior in 1974, a Sachem in 1980, a Keeper of the Wampum in 1987, and a Sagamore in 2003. Merle served six years as a staff member in Camp Sawmill: one year on Nature, one year on Conservation, two years Mic-O-Say Counselor, two years as Conservation Counselor, and one year as Sawmill Program Director. Merle was a member of Troop 220 in Lee's Summit and received his Eagle in 1973. As an adult, Merle served as Scoutmaster of Troop 220 from 1982-88, Assistant Scoutmaster from 1988-2002, and is currently registered as the COR. He is teaching at Raytown South High School. His father, Hillis Bowers (Keeper of the Wampum Glancing Ax), is the one who started him in Scouting. Merle's brothers all earned their Eagle Scout and became Tribesmen: Rick (Warrior Least Glancing Ax), Ed (Shaman Young Glancing Ax) and Rodger (Shaman Last Glancing Ax). Merle is married and has three children: Alice, born in 1992, Brian in 1999, and Harry in 2001. If all goes well, Brian will be called for Brave the summer of 2013 and Harry the summer of 2015--Brave Ceremonies not to be missed. Merle will pass along any messages to his brothers. - Bud Hastings: Sagamore Swift Wingfoot. Bud attended the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation for four years as a scout. He then served six years as a staff member: three years on Frontier Handicraft, one year on Sawmill Handicraft, one year on Frontier Rifle Range, and one year on Sawmill Rifle Range. He has served as the camp bus driver for at least one session each summer from 2000 to 2006. His most recent elevation to Sagamore was in 2007. Bud was a member of Troop 75 in Raytown and received his Eagle in 1966. His father, Buddy Hastings, Sr., served six years as Scoutmaster. His Tribal name was Sachem Big Swift Wingfoot. He passed away in 1982.
Bud is presently Scoutmaster of Troop 332 in Blue Springs, MO. His son, Craig Hastings, is an Eagle Scout and a Sachem. Bud retired as principal of Thomas Hart Benton School in Independence in 2003. He is now teaching 7th grade social studies and science and coaching basketball at Harmony Middle School in the Blue Valley School District. Bud served the 12 years as a Board Member of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Eastern Jackson County. - Keith Wood: Sagamore Badgerhawk. Keith became a member of the Tribe in 1984 as an Honorary Warrior. He was elevated to Sachem during the third session at Bartle the summer of 1996, Keeper of the Wampum in 2002, and Sagamore in 2007. He has camped at Bartle 14 out of the last 15 years. He has been involved with Scouting as an adult leader since the late 70's as a Cub den leader, Webelos den leader, and Cubmaster. Since 1981, he has served in various capacities with Boy Scout Troop 59 in Lawrence, KS, as Assistant Scoutmaster, Scoutmaster, and Committee Chair. He has also served in various capacities for Pelathe district, including activities chairman, vice chairman, unit commissioner, and two years recently as district commissioner. Keith served twice as Family FOS chairman, this year raising over 150% of their goal. He has received the Distinguished Commissioners Award, the District Award of Merit, and the Silver Beaver Award. Keith is an Eagle Scout and has two sons, one who earned his Eagle Scout in 1987, and the other who completed his Eagle requirements in August 1996.
Keith's primary responsibilities now with the Troop involve the planning and direction of high adventure activities. Since 1990, he has been to Sommers Canoe Base two times ('90 and '93), conducted three 50-miler back packs (Black Hills '92, Appalachian Trail '94, and Isle Royale '95) and has been to Philmont twice ('87 and '96). - Kenneth "Dean" Wren: Medicine Man Glowing Yellow Star. Dean entered the Tribe as a Brave in 1947. He earned his Warrior the following summer. In 1973 he was elevated to Sachem, Keeper of the Wampum in 1979, Sagamore in 1993, and Medicine Man in 2002. Dean entered Boy Scouts in Troop 258 out of Concordia, MO in 1943. He earned his Eagle Scout in March 1949. He earned a Gold Eagle Palm, and has a total of 31 merit badges. As a youth, he served as Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader, and Jr. Asstistant Scoutmaster. As an adult, Dean has served in numerous leadership positions including Assistant Scoutmaster, acting Scoutmaster, Campsite Scoutmaster, Thunderbird & Tonka District Finance and Leadership Trainer, Eagle Guest Chairman, Neighhood and Unit Commissioner, Assistant District Commissioner, Committeeman, and Heart of America Council Committee member.
Dean has earned the Leadership Training Award, Tonka District Acorn Award, Scouters Key (Commissioner), Commissioners Arrowhead Honor, District Award of Merit, Council Silver Beaver award. He participated in Woodbadge as the Permanent Patrol Leader of the Round Footed White Owl Patrol. Dean is a Lifetime member of the Dog Soldiers and a Lifetime member of the NESA. He visited Baden-Powell's house in London, England as well as Gilwell Park in Chingford, England. Dean passed away in June of 2007 and will be greatly missed.
