FRANK
GERNGROSS

ROSEBUD - Frank Gerngross, 84, joined his beloved wife, Clara, in heaven on the eve of their 61st wedding anniversary. He died at 7:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at his home, surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wall with burial in St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery.
Mr. Gerngross was born Feb. 16, 1913, in Olfen, Texas, to Frank and Anna Gerngross. On February 8, 1937, he married Clara Richter, and they moved to a farm near Wall. Mrs. Gerngross preceded him in death on March 6, 1994, after 57 years of marriage.
Mr. Gerngross was a farmer in the Wall community after his marriage. There, he was active in many church, school and community organizations. One of his and Clara's first priorities was to work with several other families to see that a Catholic church was built in Wall. They were successful, and Mr. Gerngross became a charter member of the St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Chapter 4316 and the St. Ambrose Men's Society.
He served on the Wall Independent School District School Board for many years. Mr. Gerngross was a member of the first board of the Wall Co-Op Gin and remained on that board for 30 years. He was also on the Board of the Pecos Co-Op Oil Mill. He was recently honored for his 47 years of service to the Germania Insurance Co.
In the early 1940s, he was instrumental in getting electricity in the rural Wall area through the REA. He and several neighbors went door to door asking people to join the REA. This was not an easy task because people were reluctant to join because they couldn't envision enough uses for electricity to justify the $5 charge.
Mr. Gerngross worked hard, but he also knew how to enjoy life. He played Skat regularly and was hard to beat in dominoes. He especially enjoyed being surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He took special delight in his grandson, Jeffrey Lange, who spent two years with him after the death of Mrs. Gerngross.

God looked around his garden
And found an empty space.
He then looked down upon this earth
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful;
He only takes the best.
He knew that you were in pain.
He knew you would never get well
Upon this earth again.
He saw the roads getting rough
And the hills harder to climb,
So he closed your weary eyes and
Whispered in your ear, ``Peace be thine.''
It broke our hearts to lose you;
But you did not go alone.
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
We'll meet you in Heaven.
We love you and miss you very much.
